I went off the socials

Writer: NorsemaidNorsemaid

You know when you're scrolling on Instagram or TikTok, and you get a feeling of increasing existencial dread? Yeah, I can't do it anymore... So here's the thing: Social media is a great marketing tool, and I may have done myself a huge disservice by logging off. I just don't want social media to be my necessary evil.

These are the reasons why I chose to log off for now:

  1. It's just not my gig. I don't find it enjoyable, and creating posts and shorts is just a huge dauting task for me. And even though my mom says I have to do hard things sometimes, this is not it.

  2. I absolutely hate short-form content. I LOVE making videos, telling stories, and capturing + editing photos, I just can't stand the "urgency"-format of content on Instagram++.

  3. I don't feel like I can genuinely be myself on Instagram. Everything is just so curated, dare I say fake (most of it), and it's just not reality. And I also understand that marketing isn't necessarily about reality, but about selling a product. Well, that's just not me...

  4. I want to promote real experiences, connecting with the body, and creating self love and compassion. And for me, social media does not respresent that. And I do get that some people can find a lot of comfort through certain people and profiles, which is great! And I've been in that position as well. But for now, I want to live in the real world, create real connections, and GIVE REAL EXPERIENCES to people who want to have them.

I understand social media can be a huge benefit to companies, and a platform to spread information and positivity if done correctly. And for the people who thrive on the socials: I love that for you, and I may hire you when I have the capital LOL. This is not a black-and-white discussion, and I don't think social media is the definition of evil. I mean, I have a blog and a YouTube channel soo...

But right now, at this point in time, it's not for me.

So whether you enjoy the digital space or not, remember to take breaks and spend time in the real world. Move your body, go out into nature, and slow the fuck down. Put on a freakin' mermaid tail, take a chill pill, and pretend you're a sea hag.
